Some Help for a Season That Feels Like A Lot

Being honest, this time of year always feels like a lot for me. Thanksgiving through to the New Year, I get overwhelmed and sad.

Everywhere I look, there seems to be excitement, energy, and celebration, and I’m rarely feeling it. The holidays feel loud and complicated to me. They’re not simple and easy, and I feel pressure to be joyful.

Most years, the holidays feel like something to get through, but this year, on top of my usual angst, I'm feeling the weight of the world's hardships.

If you’re feeling any version of that too, you’re not alone.

Here’s the thought that’s helping me right now:

You don’t have to match the season.

You don’t have to please anyone. You just have to meet yourself where you are NOW.

And if you feel a little foggy, like me —emotionally, mentally, energetically—try taking one small, grounding step this week.

Not to achieve anything. Not to “fix” anything. Just to give yourself a point of connection.

  • Take a walk — no pace, no goals.

  • Look up and out, not down and in.

  • Make one cup of tea and actually drink it while it’s hot.

  • Pause long enough to feel your feet on the ground.

  • Clean one small thing — a sink, a counter, a closet, a corner to create a bit of order.

  • Open a window for fresh air, even if only for a minute.

  • Write one sentence about how you actually feel (not how you “should” feel).

  • Do the next small task that’s been lingering.

  • Sit outside for five minutes, even if it’s cold.

  • Choose one thing to say no to and let that be enough.

  • And say yes to something you wouldn’t normally.

  • Talk to someone who steadies you.

  • Turn off noise — notifications, TV, chatter for a little while.

  • Read something that nourishes you, no matter the length.

  • Light a candle.

  • Do one action you’ve been circling — the smallest version of it.

Sometimes connection and clarity don’t come from a considerable effort. They come from gentle motion.

And for now, that’s enough.

Take care of yourself. Meet your own energy — not the season’s.

Thrive Through Transition.

✌🏻💙
